|Cinematic Expression 4-Day Workshop - Florence, Italy 2017
Technical and Creative Elements of Cinematic Expression
Level: Intermediate / Advanced
Transforming Mind Image into the language of Cinematic Expression in Film and Video.
Through demonstration and hands-on the workshop addresses most important aspect of cinematic expression - the relationship between Story
content and technical / creative Choices for its visual expression.
Dancing with Light Technique is the methodical approach to realization of creative process and as such an invaluable tool for Directors and
Directors of Photography in their pursuit of self expression. True nature of Artistic Process is in the ability to follow on preconceived idea -
Mind Image - and materializing it with help of tools of cinematography. Lighting from imagination without help of video monitor is at the core of
cinematic expression in film and video. Mind Image is the beginning of creative process as what remains is to exploit the technical and creative
in order to materialize it.
"Understanding of Lighting as simulation of Natural Phenomena of Light does make one realize that its fundamental elements are always the same and never
change. Creative Lighting is an organic system governed by Logic of Nature, teaching of which starts with first exercise in Mood Creation..
Prerequisite required - Imagination" Janusz
Create, Maintain and Protect your Visual Expression
There is no cinematic expression without touching the Light. It seems like the notion of creating out of RAW becomes a DIT's mantra where
some of them argue on the side of the software potential. The misfortune of the ambitious ones claiming to express while sitting on the couch
is in the fact that most of them do not distinguish between the following:
Contrast Ratio / Lighting Ratio / Light Direction / Lighting Style / Light Quality - and the role these play in Cinematic Mood creation and that it is
impossible to create any of those element with the software... Unless we convince Producer that He/She would be better off presenting the
idea in the form of Animated Production.
