Dancing with Light - Kodak Article
Design of Cinematic Sequence needs to be organic if it is to relate to emotional and/or intellectual content of the scene. This can only be achieved when elements chosen for its visual interpretation are psychologically motivated and of homogeneous nature... One wrong element causes effect similar to false tune in music.
"Dancing with Light" technique addresses technical and creative aspects of Cinematic Expression. It is an expanded into motion and color version of Ansel Adams' method of Zone System and Previsualization. Zone System of Exposure is a foundation of the technique... an imperative element in the process of translating imagined values of Grey into language of film. It is a systematic and logical approach to realization of creative process and as such an invaluable tool for Directors and Directors of Photograpy in their pursuit of selfexpression... is it not that Narrative is only a pretext ?
Mind Image is deconstructed into elements of cinematic expression: Light, Exposure, Lens, Color, Composition, Camera Angle/Movement and, captured on film/video as its physical reflection. Janusz designed "Dancing with Light" technique.
Note:
Reflective Value of Color reproduces its value wheter in Color or B&W. Any particular Color within a Scene renders its value relative o exposure placement of the Grey Card. Placing 18% Grey on Zone V renders color at its Reflecting Value. Reflective value of color can be subjectively placed on any Zone and reproduced as such. Of course there are nuances in Color rendition relating to Color Balance of Film. Tungsten Balanced emulsion will render Warm colors with less saturation and Daylight Balanced emulsions renders Cool colors similar way. This is known fact considering that each film has two different ASA/ISO/EV values depending on what Color Temperature it is been exposed to.
